Whether it's your first time in front of a professional camera or you're a seasoned content creator, preparation is everything. At Scorpion Entertainment, we've worked with everyone from sporting clubs and gym brands to intimate private shoots — and the clients who come prepared always walk away with the best results.
1. Know Your Goal
Before anything else, ask yourself: what is this shoot for? Social media content, a business website, an event highlight? Knowing your end goal shapes everything — from the style of the shots to the locations we choose and the outfits you wear. Share this with us during the discovery call so we can plan accordingly.
2. Wardrobe Matters More Than You Think
Avoid busy patterns, logos on clothing, and overly bright neon colours — these can distract from you in the frame. Neutral tones, blacks, whites and earth tones photograph beautifully. Bring at least two outfit options so we can vary the look across the session.
3. Scout the Location
If you have a specific location in mind, visit it beforehand at the same time of day as your shoot. Look for interesting textures, natural light, and clean backgrounds. Melbourne has incredible shooting locations — from the laneways of the CBD to rooftops in Fitzroy and open spaces in the northern suburbs.
4. Get a Good Night's Sleep
This sounds simple but it genuinely makes a difference. Well-rested skin photographs better, your eyes are brighter and you'll feel more relaxed in front of the camera. Avoid alcohol the night before a shoot.
5. Communicate With Your Photographer
Don't be afraid to share reference images, Pinterest boards or Instagram posts that inspire you. The more we understand your vision, the better we can bring it to life. At Scorpion Entertainment we always hold a discovery call before every shoot — use that time to share everything.
6. Relax and Trust the Process
The best shots always come when you stop overthinking and just be yourself. We'll guide you through poses, movement and expressions — you just need to show up and enjoy the experience. Some of our most powerful images have come from completely unplanned, candid moments.
